New Delhi, Sep 4 (NationPress) A Special CBI court in Jabalpur has found Yogesh Arora, a former Assistant Engineer of the Life Insurance Corporation (LIC), guilty and sentenced him to four years of rigorous imprisonment for his involvement in a bribery scandal. The court also levied a fine of Rs 10,000 on him.
The case traces back to August 26, 2011, when the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) initiated an FIR against Arora for allegedly soliciting a bribe of Rs 20,000 from a contractor.
As per the complaint, Arora demanded this illegal payment as a reward for facilitating the preparation and payment of bills totaling Rs 93,000 for electrical maintenance services conducted in LIC offices.
He purportedly tied the bribe to the processing of other outstanding bills worth between Rs 35,000-40,000 for minor tasks completed by the complainant.
Responding to the complaint, the CBI executed a sting operation and apprehended Arora in the act of demanding and accepting Rs 10,000 from the contractor.
Post-arrest, investigators gathered evidence, concluding the probe, which led to the filing of a charge sheet on January 31, 2015.
After a protracted trial, the Special Judge for CBI cases in Jabalpur convicted Arora under pertinent provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
On September 3, 2025, the court announced its ruling, sentencing him to four years behind bars along with a financial penalty.
This conviction marks another significant move in the CBI's ongoing campaign against corruption within government entities.
Officials affirmed that the agency is dedicated to bringing to justice individuals who exploit public office for personal benefit.
