Kolkata, Nov 14 (NationPress) A central delegation from the Election Commission of India (ECI) is set to visit West Bengal once again next week to assess the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) initiative, which commenced on November 4.
This marks the second occurrence this month of a central team arriving in West Bengal to evaluate the SIR process, highlighting the commission's dedicated attention to the advancement of SIR in the region, as confirmed by a source from the office of the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of West Bengal.
“Earlier this month, a central ECI delegation, headed by Deputy Election Commissioner Gyanesh Bharti, visited West Bengal right after the distribution of enumeration forms began on November 4. During their three-day visit, the team scrutinized the SIR progress across four districts in North Bengal. The upcoming visit next week will primarily focus on the progress in districts of South Bengal,” shared the insider from the CEO's office.
By the time the central ECI team arrives in West Bengal next week, the first phase of the three-stage SIR process, which involves distributing enumeration forms, will be completed. As of 8 p.m. on Thursday, enumeration forms had already been distributed to 85% of the 7,66,37,529 registered voters in the state.
The initial deadline for finishing the distribution of enumeration forms lapsed on November 11, with around 15% of the total voters yet to receive their forms.
Consequently, November 14 has been set as a new deadline for wrapping up the enumeration form distribution. Completing this distribution will mark the conclusion of the first stage of the three-stage SIR process in West Bengal.
This first stage of the SIR began on November 4, with the entire process anticipated to conclude by March of the following year. The last SIR conducted in West Bengal took place in 2002.
