Agartala, Feb 11 (NationPress) Tripura's Chief Minister Manik Saha announced on Tuesday that he is in close contact with the Central government regarding post-flood assistance, and the funds will be released once all official protocols are fulfilled.

During his address at the Flood Relief and Management Programme at Rabindra Bhavan, the Chief Minister highlighted that last year's catastrophic flood in August impacted approximately 17 lakh people, with around four lakh individuals relocated to safe shelters and 889 relief camps established by the government. Tragically, at least 38 lives were lost due to the flood and landslides, and a total of 58,687 houses sustained damage. The total estimated loss for the state was around Rs 15,000 crore, he informed.

He praised the residents of all communities for their significant contributions to the Chief Minister’s relief fund during this natural disaster. Saha emphasized the necessity of helping those in need during challenging times, noting that the people of Tripura had never faced such a calamity before.

The Chief Minister also recognized the efforts of various voluntary organizations and groups during this crisis. He specifically mentioned that the ‘Abhoy Mission’ (an NGO) and its associated organizations assisted around 5,600 families affected by the flood.

“The Central Government has provided all possible support to manage the flood situation. Various organizations, including the Air Force, NDRF, and SDRF, collaborated to tackle the crisis. During this challenging period, the community contributed generously to the Chief Minister's Relief Fund, setting a precedent for the future. People from diverse backgrounds, including children, students, employees, pensioners, and businesspersons, offered their assistance,” he remarked.

The Chief Minister further reported that during the flood, six major rivers in the state, excluding the Juri River, surpassed the danger level.

“Among the eight districts, Gomati, South, and Sepahijala were the hardest hit. Other districts also experienced varying degrees of damage,” he stated, acknowledging the significant support from Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah during the crisis.

An Inter-Ministerial Central Team visited Tripura to assess the damage in different districts. The Chief Minister revealed that a total of Rs 564 crore has been allocated for disaster relief, including funds from the state exchequer. The event was attended by District Magistrate of West Tripura, Vishal Kumar, Sadar Sub-Divisional Magistrate Manik Lal Das, and other officials.
