Aizawl, Oct 23 (NationPress) Union Minister for Parliamentary and Minority Affairs Kiren Rijiju stated on Thursday that the Central government, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has been providing unwavering support to the government of Mizoram. He emphasized that should the BJP candidate secure victory in the Dampa Assembly by-election, the pace of the state's development would see a significant boost.
Rijiju, who serves as the BJP’s Lok Sabha member from Arunachal Pradesh, has been actively campaigning since Wednesday, advocating for the party’s candidate for the Dampa Assembly seat, Lalhmangaiha.
While addressing a gathering organized for the Dampa bypoll campaign at the Reiek Community Hall in Mamit district, the senior BJP leader appealed to the citizens to support the party candidate in the upcoming by-election scheduled for November 11.
He remarked that the people of Mizoram fully recognize the commitment, contributions, and support of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in transforming Mizoram and the entire Northeast into a thriving and prosperous region.
The Union Minister reaffirmed the Central government’s dedication to establishing direct connections between Delhi and the rural areas of Mizoram, as well as the broader Northeast region.
He also highlighted the necessity for optimal utilization of Mizoram’s potential and resources for the state's development and welfare.
Emphasizing the industrious spirit of the Mizo community and the significance of peace, Rijiju mentioned that he had received various memoranda requesting the establishment of an artificial turf ground, new link roads to numerous villages, and a direct road connecting Reiek to Aizawl airport.
Recalling prior initiatives aimed at benefiting the Mizo people, the Minister noted that a special cell had been created within the Delhi Police to assist individuals from the Northeastern states, including Mizoram, residing in the national capital.
Later, in a post on his X account, Rijiju expressed: “The enthusiasm and spirit of the people of Mizoram were truly inspiring. Their unwavering belief in Hon’ble PM Shri Narendra Modi ji’s vision for the holistic development of the North East reflects the growing aspiration for progress and transformation across the region.”
Mizoram BJP President K. Beichhua, along with the party’s state Vice President J.B. Rualchhinga, BJP MLA K. Hrahmo, and other party leaders joined Rijiju during the campaign efforts.
The Union Minister also participated in an election meeting on Wednesday at West Phaileng in Mamit district. Competing against the BJP candidate are ruling Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM) nominee Vanlalsailova, a well-known Mizo singer and preacher, Mizo National Front (MNF) candidate R. Lalthangliana, Congress candidate John Rotluangliana, and Mizoram People’s Conference (MPC) candidate K. Zahmingthanga, making it a five-way contest for the November 11 bypoll.
Prior to the Election Commission’s announcement of the poll schedule on October 6, both ruling and opposition parties had already named their candidates and initiated their campaigns in this politically significant constituency. The deadline for withdrawing candidacies is October 24.
