Bengaluru, July 14 (NationPress) In response to concerns voiced by Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah regarding the scheduling of the Sigandur cable bridge project inauguration—an event he claims has been overlooked by the Union Government—the Centre has clarified that the Chief Minister was invited to attend the ceremony on June 11 and was also asked to lead the proceedings.
On social media platform X, Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, announced, “A significant milestone in enhancing regional connectivity, the inauguration and foundation stone laying for several critical infrastructure projects will occur on Monday in Shivamogga, Karnataka.”
“An official invitation was sent to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah Ji on July 11, 2025, inviting him to preside over the event. To accommodate any scheduling conflicts, a follow-up letter was dispatched on July 12, requesting his virtual participation,” stated Union Minister Gadkari.
“The Central Government adheres to established protocols and has consistently recognized the contributions and collaboration of the Government of Karnataka and its Chief Minister. It remains dedicated to cooperative federalism and effective coordination with all states,” emphasized the Union Minister.
Nitin Gadkari also shared letters sent to CM Siddaramaiah regarding this matter on his X post.
The inauguration of the 2.12-kilometre-long Sigandur Bridge, constructed at a cost of Rs 473 crore, has sparked controversy following CM Siddaramaiah's claims that proper protocol was disregarded. He subsequently announced that no local ministers or MLAs from the state government would attend the event.
During a press briefing in Bengaluru on Monday, CM Siddaramaiah asserted that the conflict originated from the Centre.
The Chief Minister mentioned that he had communicated with Union Minister Gadkari regarding the inauguration timing, requesting a postponement due to a prior commitment.
When asked about the inauguration on Monday, CM Siddaramaiah stated that he had conversed with Union Minister Gadkari over the phone and also sent him a letter, seeking a schedule adjustment for the program in Sagara taluk.
Despite Union Minister Gadkari's agreement to reschedule, the event was set for Monday under pressure from local BJP leaders, without informing him, according to CM Siddaramaiah.
He expressed that he would not be able to attend the event in Sagara taluk due to a prior engagement in Vijayapura district.
In a display of protest against what he termed the BJP’s behavior, CM Siddaramaiah declared that no Ministers or local MLAs from the state government would participate in the inauguration, reiterating that protocol was not adhered to and holding the Union government accountable for the discord.
