New Delhi, July 7 (NationPress) The Centre has accelerated significant infrastructure initiatives valued at over Rs 36,296 crore in Gujarat and Rajasthan. This decision follows a high-level meeting held last week, which aimed at tackling obstacles through the Project Monitoring Group (PMG) framework, as stated by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry on Monday.
During the meeting, 22 issues concerning 18 critical projects were discussed. A major focus was on the Transmission System Strengthening Scheme intended for the evacuation of power from solar energy zones across Rajasthan and Gujarat, which involves an estimated investment of Rs 14,147 crore. This scheme is designed to ensure the smooth integration of renewable energy into the national grid through the development of high-capacity transmission facilities, including substations and transmission lines.
In Rajasthan, the project specifically targets solar zones in Jaisalmer, Bikaner, and Barmer, while in Gujarat, the areas of focus include Surendranagar, Patan, and Kutch. These initiatives are vital for transporting solar power generated in renewable energy-rich areas to consumption centers throughout India. The meeting also focused on addressing critical issues such as right-of-way (RoW) and land acquisition to hasten project advancements.
Additionally, the meeting reviewed the 5G/4G network expansion project by Reliance Jio, which has been recognized as a project of national significance. This initiative aims to extend 5G mobile services to underserved and remote regions, while also enhancing the existing 4G infrastructure. The discussions with the state government aimed at expediting the resolution of pending forest-related issues. Upon completion, this project will greatly enhance digital connectivity, particularly in remote and strategically vital areas.
Praveen Mahto, Principal Economic Adviser at the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), who presided over the meeting, reiterated the Government’s dedication to fortifying the institutional structure for project oversight. He instructed relevant authorities to take a proactive stance in resolving outstanding matters.
Mahto also highlighted the necessity for private project advocates to actively utilize the Project Monitoring Group (PMG) platform (https://pmg.dpiit.gov.in/) to hasten project execution. He emphasized that effective collaboration among Central Ministries, State Governments, and private stakeholders is crucial for the timely and efficient resolution of project-related issues.
The meeting included senior representatives from Central Ministries, State Governments, and key project advocates, showcasing a strong commitment to collaborative infrastructure development.
