Kolkata, June 1 (NationPress) The Central government’s primary objective is to create a robust evidence-based criminal justice system, and technology will be crucial in achieving this, stated Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday.
“Our aim is to develop a criminal justice system rooted in evidence rather than debate, eliminating any uncertainty. This approach will guarantee that the true culprits do not evade justice while ensuring that victims receive the justice they deserve,” he remarked.
On the same day, HM Shah inaugurated the new facility of the Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CSFL) in Rajarhat, located in the northern outskirts of Kolkata.
During the event, the Union Home Minister emphasized that to create a reliable evidence-based criminal justice system, investigators must consistently stay two steps ahead of offenders.
“Technology is pivotal in this effort, enabling investigators to outpace criminals. Thanks to advancements like DNA sequencing, we have resolved criminal cases dating back two decades. Forensic audits have also successfully addressed numerous financial crimes,” Shah explained.
Furthermore, the Union Home Minister announced that the Central government plans to initiate a Rs 2,800 crore project aimed at modernizing forensic science facilities nationwide. “Additionally, a National Forensic Data Centre will be established with an investment of Rs 200 crore, where a vast repository of data will be maintained and analyzed using artificial intelligence. This initiative will facilitate a smoother transition to a foolproof, evidence-based criminal justice system,” he added.
Later that day, he is expected to speak at a political rally at Netaji Indoor Stadium in Central Kolkata, attended by state BJP leaders from all levels in West Bengal. At the rally, Shah is anticipated to set the tone for the critical West Bengal Assembly elections scheduled for next year.
