New Delhi, July 19 (NationPress) The Delhi PWD and Water Minister, Parvesh Sahib Singh, declared on Saturday that a comprehensive renovation of the capital's outdated water infrastructure is on track to be completed within a year. He attributed the ongoing water crisis to decades-old pipelines and negligence from previous administrations.
During his inspection of D-Block Gole Market, Gurudwara Flats in Rakabganj, and Type-II Flats in Sarojini Nagar, Singh pointed out the alarming condition of the city’s water pipelines.
“Certain areas in Delhi are using pipelines that are between 40 to 80 years old. Residents are consuming contaminated water due to the lack of upgrades,” he stated.
Criticizing the previous government, Singh claimed they had failed to take necessary actions. “They didn’t install even a single new pipeline. Providing clean drinking water was never prioritized,” he added.
In contrast, Singh asserted that the current government has already approved budgets, finalized tenders, and commenced work in various regions as part of a comprehensive city master plan. “Our administration is merely five months old, yet within a year, the appearance of Delhi will change,” he promised.
He reassured citizens that these are not just empty promises. “New pipelines are being installed, work has begun, and strict timelines are being adhered to. Departments have been directed to uphold complete transparency and ensure quality control,” Singh emphasized.
Local residents welcomed the minister’s visit with optimism, expressing hope that genuine improvements will soon be evident in their neighborhoods. Singh’s comments come amid rising concerns regarding water pollution and scarcity throughout the capital, especially in older neighborhoods where residents frequently report yellow or foul-smelling tap water.
With an extensive overhaul plan now underway, the minister's strong commitment seems to signal a new era for Delhi’s water and sewer infrastructure—one that promises efficiency, accountability, and cleaner water for everyone.
