Chittorgarh Fort's Global Significance Highlighted by Rajasthan MP in Lok Sabha

Jaipur, Dec 16 (NationPress) In a recent session of the Lok Sabha, Rajasthan's Chittorgarh MP C.P. Joshi posed a question concerning the potential construction of a memorial honoring Bhakt Shiromani Meerabai within the historic Chittorgarh Fort, asserting that the fort possesses a distinct global identity.
MP Joshi underscored the fort's historical importance, stating, "Chittorgarh Fort carries a unique global identity. As the largest fort in Asia, it is steeped in a rich and illustrious past linked to legendary figures such as Meera, Panna, Padmini, and Maharana Pratap."
He further inquired whether the government has plans to construct a memorial for Meerabai in Chittorgarh, particularly in light of the upcoming celebrations for her 525th birth anniversary.
Additionally, he highlighted the long-standing request to open the eastern entrance gate of Chittorgarh Fort and sought information regarding the government's stance on this matter.
"The Hon'ble Prime Minister has announced various initiatives related to Meerabai at multiple historical sites across the nation in conjunction with her 525th birth anniversary. Will there be a memorial dedicated to Meerabai in Chittorgarh? Furthermore, is the government considering the long-standing demand to open the eastern gate of Chittorgarh?" he queried.
In response, Union Culture Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat informed the assembly that significant programs are being organized at four key historical locations associated with Meerabai's life: her birthplace (Merta), her marriage site (Chittorgarh), her devotion site (Vrindavan), and her nirvana site (Dwarka).
"A special event is planned in Chittorgarh from December 21st to 23rd," the minister announced.
Regarding the eastern gate of Chittorgarh Fort, the Union Minister mentioned that the MP and the District Collector had submitted a request to the Ministry for an alternative access route.
"The Ministry has requested the state government to prepare a Detailed Project Report (DPR) based on this proposal. The Archaeological Survey of India will assess the situation and make a decision according to its guidelines," the minister concluded.
