Srinagar, June 19 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Omar Abdullah, embarked on a journey aboard the newly launched Vande Bharat train from Srinagar to Katra in the Reasi district on Thursday.
Sharing videos and photos from the train, he posted on X, "Time to head to Jammu".
Just last week, his father and former Chief Minister, Dr. Farooq Abdullah, made a similar trip on the Vande Bharat, traveling from Srinagar to Katra and back.
During his journey, Dr. Farooq Abdullah spent the night at the Mata Vaishno Devi shrine in Katra, where he participated in prayers both at night and in the morning before returning to Srinagar.
The Vande Bharat train covers the distance between Srinagar and Katra in just three hours. This September, with the completion of work at the Jammu railway station, the service will also connect Jammu and Srinagar.
Inaugurated on June 6 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the rail connection between Katra and Srinagar features the world’s highest railway bridge over the Chenab River, standing 35 meters taller than the Eiffel Tower in Paris.
Moreover, this rail link includes the Anji cable-stayed bridge, which is the first of its kind in India for railway transit. The advanced Vande Bharat train has been meticulously designed to withstand the harsh weather and challenging terrain of the Himalayan region.
Travelers will enjoy a plethora of modern conveniences on the Vande Bharat Express, including automatic doors, reclining and revolving seats (in executive class), mobile charging outlets, a mini pantry with hot and cold food selections, and enhanced lighting.
Safety is prioritized with features such as CCTV surveillance, emergency exits, fire extinguishers, and a KAVACH system that helps prevent collisions.
This train service represents a dream project that has been in the making for over 70 years, with the potential to greatly enhance tourism, horticulture, education, trade, and public transportation.
Additionally, the train service alleviates concerns associated with the Jammu-Srinagar national highway, which frequently faces closures due to landslides and shooting stones, leading to shortages of essential supplies in the isolated Valley.
