Each family has been granted Rs 7,000 as compassionate relief as part of the state government's disaster assistance scheme.
The transfer was launched via Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) from Sankalp Hall at 1, Anne Marg, Patna. In his remarks, CM Nitish Kumar reaffirmed his government’s dedication to prioritizing the needs of disaster victims.
“The individuals affected by disasters hold the foremost claim on the state’s treasury. The state government is relentlessly striving to serve the people’s interests,” he stated on social media.
An official report indicates that nearly 38 lakh people in 66 blocks across 12 districts have suffered due to the floods this year, which have been exacerbated by rising water levels in the Ganga and intense rainfall in adjacent states.
The districts most severely impacted include Bhojpur, Patna, Saran, Vaishali, Samastipur, Begusarai, Lakhisarai, Munger, Khagaria, Bhagalpur, and Katihar, along with certain areas of Nalanda.
To date, the Disaster Management Department has provided 2.19 lakh polythene sheets, 57,639 dry ration packets, and established 14 relief camps accommodating around 15,000 individuals. Furthermore, over 85 lakh meals have been distributed through community kitchens, and medical assistance for both people and livestock has been arranged.
The Chief Minister noted that he conducted a review meeting with officials from the affected districts on August 13, followed by an aerial survey of Patna, Vaishali, Begusarai, and Munger on August 14.
He emphasized that directives were issued to accelerate relief efforts and initiate compensation disbursement by August 20.
Expressing contentment with the progress, the CM cautioned officials to maintain vigilance: “The flood season is not yet over. September frequently brings heavy rainfall and swelling river levels. All officials must remain attentive and provide sensitive, timely support to affected families.”
The event was graced by Disaster Management Minister Vijay Kumar Mandal, Chief Secretary Amrit Lal Meena, Development Commissioner Pratyaya Amrit, and other senior officials. The District Magistrates of the impacted districts also participated via video conferencing.
