Hyderabad, Nov 20 (NationPress) Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy proposed to the Central government on Thursday to adopt the free fine rice distribution model of Telangana nationwide. This suggestion was made during a meeting with Union Minister for Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution Pralhad Joshi.
Chief Minister Reddy pointed out that Telangana is the sole state in India providing free fine rice through Fair Price Shops.
As per the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO), CM Reddy emphasized that the welfare scheme's aims can only be achieved if the rice consumed by people is ensured.
He urged the Centre to consider extending the free distribution of ‘Sanna Biyyam’ (fine rice) to consumers throughout the country, akin to its implementation in Telangana. He recommended conducting a thorough study to facilitate informed decisions in this regard.
Joshi responded that a decision on fine rice distribution would be determined following a comprehensive analysis.
Present at the meeting were Telangana’s Civil Supplies Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy, Chief Secretary Ramakrishna Rao, Principal Secretary Shri Seshadri, Civil Supplies Department Principal Secretary Stephen Raveendra, and other senior officials.
Since its launch in March under CM Reddy's leadership, the Telangana government has been providing fine rice at no cost to those in need through Fair Price Shops. Each ration cardholder in the state receives six kilograms of fine rice monthly.
The state government claims that the scheme benefits approximately 3.10 crore individuals, nearly 85% of Telangana's population.
Meanwhile, visionary technologist and Analog AI CEO Alex Kipman met with Chief Minister Reddy on Thursday. Kipman is renowned for his pivotal role in developing the influential mixed reality platforms Microsoft Kinect and HoloLens, and is recognized globally for transforming human-computer interaction.
During their discussion, the Chief Minister explored collaboration opportunities to integrate next-generation 'Physical Intelligence' systems into Telangana's Future City, AI City, and Musi Riverfront Development projects.
Analog AI expressed interest in addressing challenges like traffic congestion, urban flooding, and climate change prediction for Hyderabad using their innovative technology platforms.
Chief Minister Reddy invited Kipman to participate in the upcoming Telangana Rising Global Summit scheduled for December 8 and 9.
