Chennai, Oct 9 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, M.K. Stalin, is set to inaugurate the state’s longest flyover located on Avinashi Road in Coimbatore this Thursday. This ambitious venture, developed at a staggering cost of Rs 1,791 crore, aims to alleviate traffic congestion and significantly reduce travel time between crucial city locations and the airport.
The flyover spans 10 kilometres and connects Uppilipalayam to Goldwins. It is named in honor of the renowned industrialist G.D. Naidu, famously known as the 'Edison of India'. The impressive structure is supported by 304 pillars and boasts 10 lanes, making it the largest flyover in southern India.
Utilizing advanced construction methods, this bridge is designed to reduce vibration and noise during vehicle transit, enhancing both durability and commuter comfort.
According to officials, the new flyover will slash the travel time from central Coimbatore to the airport from approximately 45 minutes to merely 10 minutes.
This project is anticipated to bring considerable advantages to industries, IT parks, and residents who rely on Avinashi Road—the city’s crucial transport artery.
The inauguration is part of the Chief Minister’s extensive tour of Coimbatore district, during which he will also introduce several welfare and development initiatives.
Moreover, CM Stalin will inaugurate the World Innovation Summit 2025, emphasizing Tamil Nadu’s escalating status as a center for technology, entrepreneurship, and industrial growth. Following the flyover launch, the Chief Minister plans to lay the foundation stone for a Rs 126-crore Gold and Jewellery Industrial Park adjacent to the SIDCO Industrial Estate.
This park aims to boost the region’s jewellery manufacturing capabilities, promote exports, and create job opportunities for local artisans.
The flyover on Avinashi Road is expected to revolutionize Coimbatore’s traffic situation, alleviating congestion and enhancing urban mobility. With this initiative, the city is making significant progress toward becoming a benchmark for integrated urban and industrial development in Tamil Nadu.
