Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Tuesday, 23 June 2026 flagged off an Olympic Marathon at Oak Over, Shimla, on the occasion of International Olympic Day, reaffirming the state government's commitment to building a robust sports ecosystem for the youth of the hill state.

Speaking at the event, CM Sukhu highlighted the state government's sustained efforts to host Khelo India competitions in Himachal Pradesh. He said the government has been 'continuously striving' to bring these national-level grassroots competitions to the state, providing local athletes a platform without travelling far from home.

The Khelo India programme, launched by the central government in 2017, was designed to build grassroots sports infrastructure and identify talent across Indian states.
