On the sacred occasion of Guru Purnima, the ancient city of Varanasi became the stage for a significant convergence of faith and policy — as Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath inaugurated the Samrasta Sankalp Abhiyan (Campaign for Social Harmony) on Wednesday, 29 July 2026, marking the 650th birth anniversary year of the revered Bhakti saint Guru Ravidas.

CM Yogi offered floral tributes and performed darshan-pujan (worship and veneration) at the Shri Guru Ravidas Janmsthan Mandir — the temple built at the saint's birthplace in Varanasi. The event drew the presence of Sant Niranjan Das Ji Maharaj, described by CM Yogi as a 'true representative of the tradition of Ravidas Ji Maharaj,' alongside a gathering of several other saints from the Ravidassia community.

Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) Arjun Ram Meghwal, Union Minister of State and BJP Uttar Pradesh President Pankaj Chaudhary, and both Deputy Chief Ministers — Keshav Prasad Maurya and Brajesh Pathak — were present at the ceremony. His compositions appear in the Guru Granth Sahib and carry a consistent, radical message: that devotion transcends caste, and that human dignity is non-negotiable. The Ravidassia community — concentrated heavily in Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, and Madhya Pradesh — regards him as their supreme spiritual guide. A 650th birth anniversary is a generational milestone, and launching a named campaign around it signals intent beyond a single-day commemoration.
