Does Congress Support PM Modi's Stance on Terrorism at BRICS?

New Delhi, July 7 (NationPress) Expressing robust support for Prime Minister Narendra Modi's unwavering position on terrorism at the BRICS Summit, senior Congress leader and Rajya Sabha MP Pramod Tiwari stated his firm belief that India will combat terrorism with unshakeable resolve and determination.

Tiwari's comments followed PM Modi's declaration at the international summit, where he identified terrorism as “the most pressing challenge confronting humanity” and stressed that denouncing terrorism should be a matter of principle rather than convenience.

In an interview with IANS, Pramod Tiwari articulated his support for the Prime Minister, saying, “At the BRICS Summit, the voices against terrorism should have been more pronounced. The platform should also address the social, economic, and global issues that concern its member countries. India has consistently advocated for global peace and justice.

“I am confident that our nation will confront terrorism with unyielding determination. I wish those accountable for the recent attack in Pahalgam had been apprehended — it would have unveiled the individuals who trained and supported them. Such knowledge is vital and would have earned us greater respect on the global stage,”

Tiwari remarked. He also criticized US President Donald Trump, who recently attacked the BRICS alliance and threatened an “additional 10 percent tariff” on nations aligning with what he described as “anti-American policies.”

“BRICS is meant to protect the nations involved. President Trump had previously issued similar threats during his visit to India. During that time, Prime Minister Modi should have taken a firmer stance and reminded Trump that BRICS operates on its own principles and is committed to its founding goals,” Tiwari asserted.

The Congress leader also condemned the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar.

On Sunday, Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar noted that extensive discussions had taken place with political parties, admitting that “no one was satisfied” with the current state of the electoral rolls.

In response, Tiwari stated, “We are not content with the Election Commission of India’s response. The documentation required for voter list revision is excessively complicated and impractical. If the process aims to hinder traditional voters who oppose the BJP, Scheduled Castes, Backward Classes, and minority voters from remaining on the rolls, it raises serious questions about the Election Commission's intentions.

He added that while some groups have approached the Supreme Court, others are considering establishing “people’s courts” to ensure fairness.

“The Congress has always championed the voter's right to engage in democracy. We will continue to uphold that principle and guarantee that all requisite documentation is provided,” he affirmed.

Tiwari also targeted the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in Bihar, focusing particularly on Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) leader Chirag Paswan.

During a political rally in Saran district on Sunday, Chirag announced his intention to contest the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections and urged his party members to prepare for all 243 constituencies in collaboration with the BJP and JD(U).

Mocking the move, Tiwari observed, “The NDA in Bihar is a sinking ship. Chirag Paswan, despite being the son of a respected leader like Ram Vilas Paswan, is struggling to navigate through turbulent political waters. If he is contesting all 243 seats, it indicates that internal divisions have deepened and many alliance members are already seeking to exit before the elections.”

He continued, “It’s evident that NDA leaders recognize they are poised to lose numerous seats. Their desperation is apparent. While they are forming the central government, they are losing their control over the state. This creates confusion among their own allies.”

In the 2020 Bihar Assembly elections, Chirag Paswan’s LJP contested 137 seats but secured only one victory, in Matihani. Nevertheless, Chirag currently holds a Lok Sabha seat and serves as a Cabinet Minister in the BJP-led central government, which includes JD(U) and Telugu Desam Party (TDP) as key allies.
