Bengaluru, Oct 23 (NationPress) In response to Minister Priyank Kharge’s assertion that JD-S has ‘saffronised itself for power’, Union Minister for Heavy Industries and Steel H. D. Kumaraswamy stated on Thursday that the Congress has approached them at their “doorstep” seeking power.

“Did they not realize that I had previously formed a government with the BJP?” he remarked while addressing the media in Bengaluru.

Kumaraswamy urged Kharge to cease engaging in “petty politics” and instead focus on the flood situation in his hometown of Kalaburagi.

“Back in 2018, Congress came to our doorstep for power. He should consult his father about what transpired during that period and learn from it. Instead of playing politics in Bengaluru, he should concentrate on the issues in his own district,” he added.

He acknowledged that he has criticized the RSS in the past, but questioned what the Congress leaders have accomplished. “The public granted Congress 136 seats, yet they fail to address the people's issues. In Kalaburagi, citizens are protesting, and farmers are suffering. What actions have they taken?” he inquired.

Kumaraswamy asserted that his party does not solicit power from anyone, reiterating that it is the Congress that seeks out JD-S when in need of power.

“Everyone knows who Congress has betrayed. Are you aware of whom they have ousted from power and how many political careers they have ruined?” he questioned.

The Union Minister noted that Charan Singh was barred from participating in Parliamentary sessions and questioned how many leaders, including Chandrashekhar, were sacrificed. “Their political futures were destroyed. Similarly, Congress has undermined Deve Gowda's political career. Should I learn politics from such individuals?”

Regarding the potential change of the JD-S state president, he clarified that there has been no internal discussion about this matter.

On Yathindra Siddaramaiah's comments about leadership changes, he stated that there is no need to concern themselves with the developments in the Congress party.

Discussing the reformation of the core committee, he mentioned: “Our party has already convened a meeting on this. We intend to establish a committee for party organization concerning the core committee and the corporation elections. A decision will be made soon.”

In response to CM Siddaramaiah's claim that the Centre is not allocating sufficient funds to the state, Kumaraswamy remarked: “For 50 years, the Congress party has governed the country.

Post-independence, in all 28 constituencies, people elected only Congress MPs. During that time, there was a Congress government at both the Centre and state. What did those MPs deliver?” he questioned.

“What did they provide when their party held power at both the center and state? How much funding did Karnataka receive at that time? Which irrigation issues did they resolve? Instead of discussing us, they should reflect on these matters themselves,” Kumaraswamy concluded.
