Bengaluru, Dec 8 (NationPress) K.N. Rajanna, a former minister and prominent Congress MLA closely aligned with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, stated on Monday that the final call regarding any leadership changes in the state will be made by the party's high command. He emphasized that the possibility of Deputy Chief Minister and State Congress President D.K. Shivakumar ascending to the Chief Minister's position is unlikely.
He remarked, “Shivakumar becoming the Chief Minister is unlikely. I have previously stated that if he assumes the role, I won’t be part of the cabinet. That discussion will only arise if he becomes CM. I remain with Congress, and while the party has done nothing against me, there are individuals who have plotted against me,” he added.
Rajanna had openly opposed Shivakumar, which led to his removal from the cabinet after contradicting the Leader of the Opposition (LoP) Rahul Gandhi on the voter fraud matter.
He reaffirmed his active involvement in politics, dismissing speculation about switching to another party.
This comment followed Siddaramaiah’s son, Yathindra, asserting that his father would complete his term.
“Yathindra Siddaramaiah's statement is his personal opinion. My father cannot coerce the high command, and they will not forsake him,” he stated.
On the topic of Home Minister G. Parameshwara possibly taking over as CM, Rajanna remarked that the Chief Minister's role should not be assigned solely based on someone’s Dalit status.
He acknowledged Parameshwara's past leadership that led to the party's success in 2013, noting that his contributions are valuable.
In response to Congress MLA H.C. Balakrishna’s remark that Rajanna should clarify his party affiliation, Rajanna insisted he has been a member of Congress for 15 years, stating that Balakrishna can make whatever absurd comments he wishes.
Balakrishna is known as a strong supporter of Shivakumar.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah responded to his son Yathindra’s claim by asserting his commitment to whatever decision the high command ultimately makes.
Earlier, addressing questions regarding the leadership conflict within the ruling Congress party, MLC Yathindra Siddaramaiah remarked that those predicting a shift in the Chief Minister’s position are merely “dreaming”.
