Bengaluru, July 15 (NationPress) The first gathering of the Congress OBC Advisory Council took place under the leadership of Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah in Bengaluru on Tuesday.
The session is set to continue tomorrow at 10 a.m., where it is anticipated that three important resolutions will be passed.
Notable figures including former Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, former Puducherry Chief Minister V. Narayanasamy, former Karnataka Chief Minister M. Veerappa Moily, Congress MLC B.K. Hariprasad, AICC OBC Department Chairman Anil Jaihind, and Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister and State Congress President D.K. Shivakumar, among others, actively participated in the discussions.
Congress MLC B.K. Hariprasad stated that the principal focus was to devise strategies aimed at the advancement of Backward Classes across the nation.
"Each state encounters unique challenges. The ongoing efforts by Rahul Gandhi to secure a national caste census will be a significant point of discussion. I am confident that our thorough talks regarding the political, academic, economic, and social challenges faced by backward classes will lead to the adoption of three fundamental resolutions," he remarked.
When questioned about the meeting's intent to sway Backward Classes that currently support the BJP, Hariprasad asserted, "Backward Classes have never aligned themselves with the BJP."
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah reiterated, saying, "The BJP has consistently opposed social justice and reservations. This truth remains. Consequently, we will explore methods to fulfill Rahul Gandhi's promise of justice for Backward Classes nationwide."
He added, "I was requested to spearhead the meeting, which I did. I will refrain from sharing too much now as discussions are still underway. We will reconvene tomorrow at 10 a.m. to deliberate on numerous critical subjects."
Former Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot noted that Rahul Gandhi was the pioneer in advocating for the issues faced by SCs, STs, and OBCs.
"Rahul Gandhi has embraced this cause passionately. His mission is to support these communities," Gehlot stated.
"Dalits continue to suffer from discrimination and the stigma of untouchability persists. Adivasis face their own unique difficulties. SCs, STs, and OBCs have been grappling with similar issues for over 70 years. Rahul Gandhi has dedicated himself to this mission, and the party stands united behind him," he added.
AICC OBC Department Chairman Anil Jaihind mentioned, "The OBC Advisory Council was recently established, and I serve as the committee's convener as the head of the Congress OBC department. We have initiated several discussions, and all prominent OBC leaders within Congress are included in the Advisory Council."
