New Delhi, April 28 (NationPress) Congress General Secretary (Communications) Jairam Ramesh stated on Monday that the remarks made by various Congress leaders regarding the terror attack in Pahalgam do not represent the official stance of the party. He emphasized that only the resolution from the Congress Working Committee (CWC) and statements from Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and Lok Sabha Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi embody the party’s perspective.
“The statements from individual Congress leaders reflect their personal opinions. The official Congress position is articulated in the CWC resolution and the comments from Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and LoP Rahul Gandhi,” Ramesh shared on X.
Recognizing the gravity of the situation, Ramesh remarked, “There have been security oversights and intelligence shortcomings. However, we must promote unity, solidarity, and ongoing dialogue between the Government and the Opposition. We must remain united.”
He additionally urged party leaders to avoid making independent remarks during this crucial period, asserting, “There is no need for other leaders to speak now.”
In response to the controversy surrounding comments from some senior Congress figures, Ramesh stated, “Certain Congress leaders, who have held significant positions in the past, have voiced personal opinions. The Congress Party completely distances itself from these remarks. In this sensitive time, only the CWC resolution and the views expressed by the Congress President and the Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition should be regarded as the party’s stance.”
Ramesh noted that the CWC convened on April 24 and passed a resolution condemning the brutal terror attack on tourists in Pahalgam. Following this, on April 25, Kharge and Rahul Gandhi articulated the party’s viewpoints during an all-party meeting.
He emphasized: “There should be no confusion that only the CWC resolution, the statements by Mallikarjun Kharge, Rahul Gandhi, and the authorized AICC office-bearers represent the official position of the Indian National Congress.”
The CWC demanded an investigation into the intelligence failures surrounding the Pahalgam attack and stated that Hindus were intentionally targeted to provoke tensions in the nation. It also indicated that the brutal attack was orchestrated by Pakistan.
