Agartala, May 21 (NationPress) Security forces have successfully seized contraband and cattle valued at Rs 3.94 crore in Manipur and Tripura over the last 24 hours, as reported by officials. Four individuals were detained in connection with these illegal activities.
A Defence spokesperson stated that a joint operation, based on precise intelligence, was executed by a team comprising the Assam Rifles and Manipur Police in Savomphai, located in the Jiribam district. This operation resulted in the arrest of two alleged drug traffickers.
During the operation, security forces recovered 98 bags of foreign cigarettes, each bag containing 1,000 cigarette packets, with a total estimated value of Rs 2 crore.
Further investigations indicated that the contraband originated from Tipaimukh and was intended to be smuggled into Bangladesh via southern Assam.
In a separate incident, the Assam Rifles, in coordination with Manipur Police, conducted a search operation at Mao Gate in Senapati district as part of ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking. During this operation, two more drug peddlers were apprehended, resulting in the recovery of 442 grams of brown sugar, hidden in 38 soap cases and valued at Rs 89.40 lakh.
In Tripura, the Border Security Force (BSF), alongside state police, seized clothing items and various contrabands, alongside 31 cattle, across three different operations in the southern districts of Tripura.
The cumulative value of the seized clothing items, contrabands, and cattle stands at Rs 1.04 crore, according to a BSF spokesperson.
Security officials emphasized that these successful operations reaffirm the steadfast commitment of the Assam Rifles, BSF, and state police to enforce anti-smuggling regulations and disrupt the supply chains of such illicit trades.
