Agartala, May 4 (NationPress) The CPI-M party has criticized the BJP-led government in Tripura, stating that the administration is unwilling to offer employment to the youth facing unemployment, despite the fact that 51,000 positions across various government sectors have remained unfilled for several years.
Leader of the Opposition (LoP) in Tripura, Jitendra Chaudhury, remarked that the BJP government has failed to deliver on its pre-election promises regarding job creation for unemployed youth.
“Official figures indicate that more than 51,000 posts are unoccupied in numerous departments. Moreover, we are still awaiting data from 18-19 departments. Hundreds of thousands of young individuals are searching for work. Many have obtained Ph.D. degrees, postgraduate qualifications, and higher education, yet they have become increasingly disillusioned due to the lack of job opportunities,” Chaudhury, who is also a member of the CPI-M Politburo, informed the press.
He emphasized that over 20,000 vacancies exist solely within the Education department.
Describing the recent distribution of job offer letters by Chief Minister Manik Saha as “a mere drop in the ocean,” the LoP asserted that this initiative does not adequately tackle the significant unemployment crisis.
In response, the Chief Minister stated that since taking office in March 2018, the current BJP government has successfully created jobs for 17,554 individuals, with 3,554 positions filled in 2025 alone.
He noted that the unemployment rate in Tripura has seen a notable decline over the past seven years of BJP governance.
According to the periodic labor force survey conducted by the Union Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation, Tripura's unemployment rate was 10 in the 2018-19 financial year, which has now decreased to 1.7 percent, compared to the national average of 3.2 percent.
While refraining from directly criticizing the prior Left Front and Congress administrations, Saha mentioned that previous governments allocated jobs based on “party affiliation.”
“The BJP government prioritizes merit-based employment and transparency in its hiring processes,” he added.
He concluded by stating that the current state administration is committed to creating job opportunities through a transparent recruitment policy.
