New Delhi, June 2 (NationPress) Following the recent Pahalgam terror incident, a sweeping initiative targeting illegal Bangladeshi immigrants is in progress. BJP MP Praveen Khandelwal stated on Monday that no nation can accept the unauthorised presence of foreign nationals, including Bangladeshis and Rohingyas.
In an interview with IANS, Praveen Khandelwal remarked, “If anyone resides in the country without authorization—whether they are Bangladeshi, Rohingya, or anyone else—no country will accept this. Such individuals, who lack the right to remain, must depart from India. Their presence leads to a misuse of our resources and indirectly violates the rights of Indian citizens, especially in densely populated areas like Delhi.”
Reports indicate that since the commencement of 'Operation Sindoor', over 2,000 suspected illegal Bangladeshi migrants have been sent back across the border by Indian authorities. This coordinated effort followed a nationwide verification process conducted along the Bangladesh border in Tripura, Meghalaya, Delhi, and Assam.
The operation initially began along the borders of Gujarat, which officials claim accounts for almost half of the total number of immigrants repatriated. Other states involved in this crackdown include Delhi, Haryana, Assam, Maharashtra, and Rajasthan, where significant numbers of undocumented migrants have also been deported.
The impetus for this intensified drive was the Pahalgam terror attack on April 22, after which the Union Ministry of Home Affairs instructed states to expedite the identification and expulsion of undocumented migrants from Bangladesh and Myanmar.
Khandelwal also addressed internal criticism within the Congress party, particularly targeting leaders like Shashi Tharoor and Salman Khurshid, who have participated in all-party delegations abroad.
“It is a hallmark of Indian democracy that despite internal political differences, when leaders represent India abroad—whether it’s Shashi Tharoor, Asaduddin Owaisi, or others—they unite for the nation. They effectively unveil Pakistan’s role in fostering terrorism,” he stated.
“However, some individuals within their own party disparage them domestically. This showcases a narrow political perspective. Certain matters, especially those concerning national unity, integrity, and sovereignty, must transcend politics,” Khandelwal concluded.
His remarks followed comments from Congress leaders Udit Raj and Pawan Khera, who labeled Shashi Tharoor as the 'Super Spokesperson of BJP' and criticized his comments during a diplomatic visit to Panama.
