New Delhi, March 9 (NationPress) A wanted criminal with a reward of Rs 1 lakh was shot and killed during an encounter with police in Mathura, Uttar Pradesh early on Sunday, according to police reports.

In an operation spearheaded by the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Mathura, the suspect, known as Fati alias Assad, suffered bullet wounds and was immediately transported to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

SSP Shailesh Pandey indicated that the police acted on a tip-off, which prompted the operation.

“We received intelligence that he was hiding in a residence close to Krishna Kunj colony along with three of his associates. Upon reaching the location, they opened fire without warning. In the ensuing exchange, he was injured. He was rushed to the hospital, where he was declared dead. His three accomplices managed to escape. A search operation has been initiated to apprehend them,” he stated.

The SSP noted that Fati was the leader of the Chhaimar gang and was wanted in over thirty cases related to loot, dacoity, and murder across several states, including Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Punjab, and Jammu and Kashmir.

Originally hailing from Gadmukteswar in Hapur, Fati had 18 cases registered against him in various police stations across Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, and Jammu and Kashmir.

On March 3, another operation led to the arrest of four wanted criminals following a brief encounter in Mathura, where three suspects sustained gunshot wounds, police reported.

In this joint operation conducted by the SOG team and the Kotwali police station in Uttar Pradesh, four interstate criminals linked to the Tatlu gang were apprehended during the encounter. This gang was known for extorting money from businessmen of reputable establishments. During the exchange of fire, three suspects were shot in the leg. The police later recovered Rs 1,70,000 that had been extorted from the businessmen, along with the vehicle used in the crime and a significant cache of arms and ammunition.

The injured suspects were sent to Mathura District Hospital for medical attention, as part of the ongoing efforts by the Uttar Pradesh Police against organized crime.
