Bhopal, March 28 (NationPress) In a remarkable achievement, the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and the Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) successfully neutralized a formidable 45 kg improvised explosive device (IED) that was planted by Maoists in the Bijapur district of Chhattisgarh.
The explosive device was found on the Cherpal-Palna road and was safely defused on Friday morning, preventing a potentially disastrous event.
Reports indicate that early in the morning, a team from the CRPF 222 Battalion commenced area domination duties from the Palanar camp. During their return between 8.00 a.m. and 8.30 a.m., they stumbled upon the IED situated approximately two kilometers from Cherpal.
This bomb was strategically designed to target a security convoy and was equipped with a command switch system placed 150 meters from the explosive. Thanks to the vigilance and alertness of the security personnel, the Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) from Bijapur, along with the CRPF 222 Battalion, successfully defused the IED on-site, thereby averting a significant accident.
This operation highlighted the preparedness and effectiveness of the forces in managing such threats.
This incident is not isolated; in February, a 25-kg IED planted by Maoists was discovered and destroyed near Dhan Mandi, three kilometers away from Usur village on the Usur-Awapalli main road. This explosive, hidden in a plastic container, was neutralized by the BDS team, again preventing potential harm.
These actions are part of the ongoing anti-Naxal campaign under the “Naxal-free India by 2026” initiative. Security forces have ramped up their operations, recently taking down 30 Maoists in two separate encounters—26 on the Dantewada-Bijapur border and four in Kanker. Tragically, during these operations, one District Reserve Guard soldier lost his life, and two others, including a deputy superintendent of police, suffered serious injuries but are on the mend.
In a different incident earlier this month, Maoists detonated an IED aimed at a vehicle transporting security personnel in the Bijapur district. The explosion narrowly missed its target, occurring shortly after the vehicle passed through. While the blast inflicted minor injuries on two jawans and a civilian driver, a major disaster was averted.
