Bhubaneswar, Oct 28 (NationPress) Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi reported on Tuesday that the intense cyclonic storm ‘Montha’ has not yet inflicted any significant damage in the regions of Odisha that were anticipated to be impacted by the storm.
During a media briefing after inspecting the control room of the Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) at Rajiv Bhawan, Chief Minister Majhi stated, “Based on the latest information, Cyclone Montha has not caused any major disruptions in the eight districts predicted to be affected during its landfall. Apart from certain areas such as Gajapati and Ganjam, which recorded heavy rainfall of approximately 115 millimeters, no other regions have experienced severe rain or strong gusts.”
He also indicated that the cyclone is projected to traverse through Koraput, Malkangiri, Nabarangpur, and additional districts on Wednesday. All state government departments are on high alert and collaborating effectively to manage the cyclone's impact, whether it proves to be minor or severe.
CM Majhi further noted that the severe cyclonic storm Montha is still making landfall along the Andhra coast between Machilipatnam and Kalingapatnam, near Kakinada.
Despite earlier predictions, Malkangiri district has not yet experienced any substantial effects from the storm.
He disclosed that approximately 17,817 individuals from vulnerable regions across the eight districts in southern Odisha have been evacuated to safer locations.
While the government had prepared to evacuate more individuals if necessary, Chief Minister Majhi indicated that further evacuations may not be needed given the current situation's impact.
At least 2,198 pregnant women have been relocated to nearby health facilities, with plans to transfer an additional 651 soon, he added.
The Chief Minister mentioned that he had consulted with Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw regarding the restoration of train services that were halted due to the current circumstances.
He reaffirmed the state government's commitment to achieving zero casualties during Cyclone Montha.
