New Delhi, July 20 (NationPress) The arrest of a current AAP councillor for allegedly operating an unlawful betting operation has ignited a political uproar in the capital. Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva stated on Sunday that this event has unveiled the 'true nature' of the corrupt party.

Sachdeva challenged former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and AAP's Delhi President Saurabh Bharadwaj on whether they will continue to protect the compromised councillor from Swaroop Nagar or take steps to expel him.

Joginder Singh Bunty was detained by the Delhi Police while participating in gambling and managing illegal betting. The authorities confiscated Rs 4.35 lakh in cash during the operation, as reported by the Delhi BJP chief.

Sachdeva remarked that it remains uncertain if Kejriwal and Bharadwaj will remove this 'gambler councillor' from AAP or if they will dismiss the situation as a BJP conspiracy once more.

He emphasized that a new side of AAP leaders has emerged since the party lost control in Delhi.

The Delhi BJP President pointed out that Joginder Singh Bunty, arrested on gambling charges, is the same councillor who brandished a revolver during the 2022 municipal election campaign, an incident that was captured on video.

Sachdeva stated, “AAP leaders have always claimed to embody a different style of politics, yet the citizens of Delhi have begun to witness the party’s true face with representatives like Jitendra Tomar, who holds a fake degree, and Sandeep Kumar, a controversial ration-card minister. The latest addition to that roster is Councillor Joginder Singh Bunty, now facing allegations for operating a gambling racket.”

Previously, the Delhi BJP chief expressed that Kejriwal's stubbornness has resulted in a division within AAP that now extends from Delhi to Punjab.

Sachdeva recalled that during the farmers' protests, AAP leaders had vowed to implement reforms and increases in the minimum support price (MSP) as soon as they took office.

They also promised financial support for women, improvements in schools and hospitals, and guaranteed full electricity and water services, he added.

However, with more than half of their term elapsed, AAP MLAs in Punjab are now uncomfortable in their accountability to the public, he stated.

In this disconcerting context, Punjab AAP MLA Anmol Gagan—who had previously made populist promises like “MSP in five minutes”—resigned from the Assembly to maintain transparency with the public, Sachdeva concluded.

Point of View

The arrest of an AAP councillor for alleged gambling offers a critical lens into the party's internal dynamics and public accountability. As allegations of corruption surface, the call for leadership accountability becomes paramount, aligning with the electorate's expectations in a democratic society.
