New Delhi, April 18 (NationPress) Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Thursday characterized the communal unrest in West Bengal regarding the Waqf Act as “disgraceful” and a significant blemish on the record of her fellow Chief Minister, Mamata Banerjee.

During an exclusive interview with IANS, CM Gupta stated, “The manner in which the Chief Minister of West Bengal is actively contributing to division among communities is lamentable.”

Addressing the precarious conditions in West Bengal, she remarked, “The creation of such a tense atmosphere in the state reflects poorly on the Chief Minister. Furthermore, she is directly involved in igniting communal tensions.”

The Delhi Chief Minister also expressed solidarity with the Hindu families in the predominantly Muslim Murshidabad district, who have been victims of the violence.

“Such inhumane acts against Hindus are forcing them to abandon their homes. There is nothing more disgraceful for a state, particularly under the leadership of a female Chief Minister,” she articulated.

Her comments coincided with a day when the Calcutta High Court mandated the establishment of a committee to assess the situation in Murshidabad. Reports have indicated three fatalities related to the unrest in the district.

CM Gupta further criticized her predecessor and former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal for his contradictory approach on numerous issues.

“He excels in the politics of expediency. He only makes statements regarding topics that benefit him,” she asserted, questioning his reticence concerning the ED raids involving Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi.

Kejriwal claims to uphold the values of his children while simultaneously engaging in misconduct and collaborating with disreputable individuals, she added.

Expressing disbelief at Kejriwal’s assertions that officials were obstructing his administration in Delhi, CM Gupta remarked, “Officials are eager to work. The effectiveness depends on the government leader's willingness to motivate them.”

She dismissed Kejriwal’s allegations of hindrances in his role as Delhi CM, noting that the same officials are collaborating with the BJP government. “The Lieutenant Governor and the Central government are both willing to assist, yet he prefers to criticize and blame others for a lack of cooperation,” she concluded.
