New Delhi, April 17 (NationPress) The government of Delhi is preparing to roll out 'Ayushman Cards' for all income groups aged over 70 years by the close of April 2025.

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, alongside other Cabinet Ministers, convened a meeting on Wednesday that included MLAs and officials from both state and Central governments.

This program is part of the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY), designed to grant health insurance coverage of up to Rs 5 lakh per family annually for secondary and tertiary hospital care.

The meeting's purpose was to strategize the implementation and distribution of Ayushman cards and the establishment of Arogya Mandirs within the national capital.

"To launch the Ayushman Bharat scheme, which Delhi has been awaiting for years, we held a meeting today to guarantee that all cards are produced and delivered to the public promptly. All MLAs have been assigned to this task. We are making strides to extend these benefits to senior citizens aged 70 and above. Immediate action will commence to determine the locations for 1,139 Arogya Mandirs to be launched across Delhi, as the city has faced setbacks due to delays from previous administrations. We do not wish for any further time to be lost. Our government will initiate this work today," stated Chief Minister Gupta.

Seniors over 70 from all income brackets qualify for the Ayushman Card.

The card offers health insurance coverage of up to Rs 5 lakh per family each year, encompassing over 1500 medical procedures.

The Delhi government aims to establish 1,139 Arogya Mandirs throughout the city, which will provide healthcare services distinct from those available at Mohalla clinics.

The MLAs have been charged with collaborating with District Magistrates to both distribute existing Ayushman Cards and facilitate the opening of Arogya Mandirs.

"The MLAs have been instructed to work alongside District Magistrates (DMs) to distribute the current Ayushman Cards swiftly and also to oversee the establishment of Arogya Mandirs across the state," remarked Delhi CM Gupta.

In the meantime, Delhi Health Minister Pankaj Singh reiterated the government's commitment to constructing 1,139 Ayushman Arogya Mandirs for the residents of Delhi.

"Our objective is to build 1,139 Ayushman Arogya Mandirs for the people of Delhi, and we are determined to meet this goal. Discussions were held on how we can expedite this service for seniors over 70 years. Our Arogya Mandirs will be fundamentally different from Mohalla clinics, both in structure and functionality. The residents of Delhi will appreciate this," he added.

A memorandum of understanding between the Delhi government and the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare for executing the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana was signed on April 5, 2025, in New Delhi.

Following the signing of the MoU, the Delhi government officially launched PM ABHIM and began distributing Ayushman Bharat cards under PMJAY on April 10, 2025.
