New Delhi, May 3 (NationPress) In an effort to enhance road safety, the Delhi Traffic Police took the initiative on Saturday to engage with road users and students by hosting a range of awareness programs across the city, as reported by an official.
Under the leadership of Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic Headquarters) Satya Vir Katara, traffic officers reached a wide variety of audiences, including cyclists, school students, public transport operators, and everyday commuters. The aim was to boost understanding of traffic regulations, women's safety, and responsible road practices.
A significant aspect of the campaign was its emphasis on educating young learners. The Road Safety Cell initiated two awareness sessions at G.D. Goenka Public School, Sarita Vihar.
Nearly 600 students along with 16 teachers participated in these sessions designed to cultivate vital road safety knowledge and discipline, explained Katara.
The sessions featured interactive demonstrations and a Road Safety Quiz Competition, encouraging students to ask questions and demonstrate their grasp of safe road behaviour.
To extend their outreach further, the Delhi Traffic Police implemented awareness drives at key intersections, such as the Vivekanand Mahila College red light. Over 2,000 road users, including pedestrians, cyclists, and drivers of two- and four-wheelers, were informed about the critical importance of adhering to traffic signals, using helmets and seatbelts, and maintaining general road discipline.
Moreover, the Delhi Traffic Police executed a Cycle Conspicuity and Awareness Drive to bolster safety for cyclists in various parts of Delhi. During this campaign, 195 cyclists received education on essential safety practices, and reflective tapes were attached to their bicycles to enhance visibility, especially during nighttime.
Understanding the influence of public transport personnel on road safety, specialized training sessions were conducted for DTC and cluster bus drivers at the DTC Depot, Sarojini Nagar, and BBM DTC Electric Depot. A total of 47 bus drivers and six officers participated in these sessions.
A specific drive was organized for auto and taxi drivers, with 109 drivers being educated on vital road safety protocols, including adherence to traffic regulations and safe driving practices.
A central message conveyed during these sessions was the necessity of respecting women passengers, fostering courteous conduct, and ensuring a safe and respectful environment for all commuters.
