New Delhi, Oct 10 (NationPress) Traders and small business owners in the national capital have begun receiving their GST refunds directly in their bank accounts, as the government led by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has streamlined the process and is disbursing the long-awaited refunds.
The Delhi government has transferred Rs 694 crore into the accounts of traders and entrepreneurs just in time for the upcoming Diwali celebrations.
The Chief Minister affirmed that the Delhi government is dedicated to ensuring that every business owner, regardless of size, receives their GST refunds within the promised timeframe.
She commended the efforts of the GST department and praised the integration of modern technology in the refund process, which has facilitated quicker crediting of funds to businesses' accounts.
Furthermore, the Chief Minister disclosed that the GST department, in partnership with IIT-Hyderabad, has created an enhanced IT module aimed at accelerating and clarifying the refund settlement process. This module utilizes data analytics, data automation, and rapid verification methods to expedite refund application processing.
"The Delhi government, motivated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision, is earnestly advancing the ease of doing business policy. Plans are underway to redevelop significant markets, and the Delhi Traders Welfare Board has been established to address the challenges faced by the business community, ensuring smooth business operations," stated CM Rekha Gupta.
She also criticized previous administrations for the delays in processing GST refunds, which led to a substantial backlog of dues.
CM Gupta mentioned that her administration has accelerated the GST refund process, which is expected to delight the business community and bolster their confidence in the administration.
As per an official statement, the Trade and Tax Department has successfully processed a total of 7,375 refund applications in the financial year 2025-26 (from April to date), with a record release of Rs 694 crore into the businesses' accounts, which was owed to them.
