Bengaluru, Aug 30 (NationPress) Karnataka Home Minister G. Parameshwara remarked on Saturday that requesting the Special Investigation Team (SIT) to deliver its findings on the alleged Dharmasthala mass murder case within a predetermined timeframe is simply not feasible.
While addressing the media in Bengaluru, HM Parameshwara stated, "We have merely urged the SIT to hasten their investigation into the alleged Dharmasthala murder case. However, mandating them to finalize a report within a fixed schedule is unrealistic."
He further noted that the current trajectory of the investigation remains uncertain. "Should the investigation conclude swiftly, the report will be submitted accordingly. If not, the SIT will persist until they arrive at a resolution," he elaborated.
“These matters do not permit us to insist on a specific completion method or timeline. A designated timeframe is not applicable in this case,” HM Parameshwara asserted.
He emphasized that while the SIT has been instructed to accelerate their inquiry into the situation, the ultimate decision-making authority rests with the investigative team.
“The SIT is responsible for the investigation. Until it is finalized, neither they nor we should comment further. Our only request is for the investigation to be expedited,” he stated.
HM Parameshwara also mentioned that the SIT will conduct its investigation according to the terms of reference provided to them. If any new information emerges, the team will determine the next steps.
“We will not impose any directives on the SIT,” he underscored.
In response to inquiries regarding a complaint with the SIT about the alleged gang rape and murder of student Sowjanya in 2012, HM Parameshwara assured that the SIT will thoroughly examine the issue and make appropriate decisions.
Addressing the political rallies organized by the BJP and JD(S) in Dharmasthala and their political implications, he stated, “Regardless of the situation, we cannot press the SIT to conclude the investigation by next week.”
When questioned about calls for a National Investigation Agency (NIA) inquiry, he reminded that ongoing investigations should be acknowledged. “Even the Dharmadhikari of Dharmasthala has expressed support for the probe,” he added.
“I have made it clear that an NIA investigation is unnecessary,” he asserted.
Concerning reports about the complainant Chinnaiah being brought to Bengaluru, Parameshwara stated, “I lack information on that. The SIT operates independently of my or anyone else’s directions. They will adhere to due procedures. Forensic analysis of excavation samples has been initiated, and we are waiting for the report. Its findings are currently unknown.”
“I prefer not to comment on statements made by others regarding the case,” he concluded.
When asked why Deputy CM D.K. Shivakumar did not accompany CM Siddaramaiah to Bihar, HM Parameshwara responded, “More than being Deputy CM, Shivakumar is the State Party President. He is an established figure and capable in every aspect. It is incorrect to suggest that Shivakumar is being sidelined.”
