New Delhi, July 23 (NationPress) Heightening the political climate in Bihar ahead of the elections, Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Yadav on Wednesday suggested the potential boycott of the forthcoming state elections by the opposition Mahagathbandhan. He alleged that the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls is being manipulated to favor the ruling NDA.
In an exclusive conversation with IANS from Patna, the RJD leader accused the Election Commission of operating under the BJP’s influence, thereby compromising the democratic framework.
"If the BJP aims to govern with fraudulent voter lists, then they should just be granted an extension. What's the purpose of conducting elections if the entire process is dishonest?" Tejashwi Yadav remarked.
"Boycotting is a possibility we might consider. However, we will deliberate with our alliance partners and seek public opinion before finalizing our decision," he added.
Tejashwi Yadav criticized the Election Commission for failing to address the concerns put forth by the Opposition, asserting that legitimate voters are being removed from the rolls while the EC focuses on presenting exaggerated revision statistics to the Supreme Court.
"In the past, voters chose their government; now, the government chooses its voters," he stated, describing the initiative as a “fraudulent drive.”
This statement comes amid a tumult in the Bihar Assembly, where RJD and other opposition party MLAs called for a comprehensive debate on the SIR process. "Bihar is the cradle of democracy, and efforts are underway to suffocate it," Tejashwi Yadav accused, holding Chief Minister Nitish Kumar responsible for stifling dialogue on this matter.
He also supported Rahul Gandhi’s recent claims of electoral manipulation in various states, highlighting cases where multiple voters were registered at a single BJP worker’s residence.
Despite the existing uncertainties within the alliance, Tejashwi Yadav confirmed that decisions regarding seat-sharing and leadership within the INDIA bloc have been concluded and will be disclosed shortly.
In the meantime, he dismissed the NDA’s frequent mention of "jungle raj" as a distraction from pressing issues. "Nitish Ji is contesting his final election. The JD-U is on the verge of collapse. Nothing can prevent that now," he concluded.
