Mysuru, Sep 9 (NationPress) On Tuesday, multiple BJP leaders and Hindu activists were apprehended while assembling for the 'Mysuru Chalo' rally, protesting the Congress government's invitation to Booker Prize recipient Banu Mushtaq to inaugurate the Dussehra celebrations.
Among those detained were women BJP workers and prominent figures such as former BJP MP Pratap Simha and MLA T.S. Srivatsa, who were taken to an undisclosed location.
Law enforcement intervened to suppress the demonstration, forcibly detaining protestors who attempted to argue their case.
Police also set up barricades at the entrance to Chamundeshwari Hills, with a significant deployment of officers at the scene.
In a related development, members of the Dalita Mahasabha, who gathered to support Banu Mushtaq's role in the Dussehra inauguration, were also taken into custody.
Speaking to the media, former BJP MP Pratap Simha remarked, "The Booker awardee Banu Mushtaq is expressing views akin to a Taliban militant. Her released video has unveiled her true intentions. Despite the exposure, she has shown no regret or apology towards the Kannada community. We have sought a legal stay against Banu Mushtaq's participation in the Dussehra festivities. The Hindu Jagarana Vedike has organized this protest and rally in response to her invitation."
"However, the administration is detaining anyone attempting to protest. The police aggressively pursued and apprehended the demonstrators. The government led by Siddaramaiah is acting like a Taliban regime, and there should be no doubt about that. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, being a law graduate, should understand that protesting is our constitutional right. Banu Mushtaq has disrespected the sentiments of the Kannada people with her derogatory remarks about the Kannada flag and Goddess Bhuvaneshwari," added Pratap Simha.
He continued, "If Chief Minister Siddaramaiah desires, he may invite Banu Mushtaq to his son's wedding and honor her. The Dussehra festival celebrates worshipping Goddess Chamundeshwari. Had CM Siddaramaiah reached out to Banu Mushtaq to ask her to apologize for her controversial comments regarding Hindu deities and the Kannada flag, this situation could have been avoided."
He criticized Siddaramaiah for favoring individuals who disrespect the Kannada language and Hindu values.
