Kuala Lumpur, Oct 26 (NationPress) The External Affairs Minister (EAM) S. Jaishankar engaged in discussions with his South Korean counterpart Cho Hyun during the ASEAN meetings in Malaysia on Sunday. The two leaders focused on enhancing cooperation in sectors such as automotive, electronics, semiconductors, defence, and shipbuilding.
Post-meeting, EAM Jaishankar shared on X, stating, “Thrilled to meet FM Cho Hyun of RoK at the ASEAN meetings in Malaysia. I value the strengthening of our Special Strategic Partnership. We explored collaboration in automotive, electronics, semiconductors, defence, and shipbuilding.”
Cho Hyun mentioned that both leaders agreed to further develop the Special Strategic Partnership as it celebrates its 10th anniversary. They also addressed matters concerning the Korean Peninsula and regional issues.
In a response on X, Cho Hyun highlighted, “Met with Dr S. Jaishankar in Kuala Lumpur — our second encounter in two months. We concurred on advancing the Special Strategic Partnership for its 10th anniversary, focusing on high-level exchanges. We deliberated on enhancing ties in trade, investment, supply chains, critical technology, and defence, and sought India’s backing for Korean enterprises. We also exchanged thoughts on the Korean Peninsula and regional matters.”
EAM Jaishankar is currently in Malaysia to represent Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the 20th East Asia Summit in Kuala Lumpur on Monday. Earlier, PM Modi attended the ASEAN - India Summit virtually.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) stated, “The East Asia Summit will allow discussions on challenges to peace, stability, and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific region, alongside exchanges on regional and international events.”
This meeting between EAM Jaishankar and Cho Hyun follows their previous discussion in Delhi in August.
During their August meeting, they explored enhancing bilateral cooperation in trade, manufacturing, maritime interactions, and people-to-people exchanges, along with new possibilities in AI, semiconductors, clean energy, and defence.
“Thrilled to meet FM South Korea Cho Hyun this morning. We had constructive discussions on advancing our bilateral cooperation in trade, manufacturing, maritime and people-to-people exchanges, as well as new opportunities in AI, semiconductors, clean energy, and defence,” the EAM had shared on X.
