New Delhi, Nov 17 (NationPress) External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar is scheduled to meet with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in Moscow on Monday, as both parties gear up for a comprehensive assessment of their bilateral collaboration and forthcoming political initiatives.
The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs publicized the meeting on X, stating that the Ministers will address "forthcoming political interactions" alongside significant bilateral and global matters.
According to Maria Zakharova, spokesperson for the Russian Foreign Ministry, Jaishankar will arrive in Moscow heading an official delegation for the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Heads of State Council meeting, set for November 17–18.
This meeting will emphasize the present status of India–Russia relations and explore future pathways for political collaboration. They will also share insights on pivotal international and regional issues, including working together within the SCO, BRICS, the UN, and the G20.
Earlier, Jaishankar's visit to Russia occurred from August 19-21, 2025, when he co-chaired the 26th session of the India–Russia Inter-Governmental Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific, Technological and Cultural Cooperation (IRIGC-TEC).
During that visit, Jaishankar met with Russian President Vladimir Putin and had discussions with First Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov and Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov. He also engaged with influential scholars and think tanks.
In October, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had a phone conversation with President Putin to evaluate progress on the bilateral agenda. During this talk, PM Modi extended birthday wishes to Putin and reiterated India’s dedication to enhancing strategic cooperation.
He expressed anticipation for welcoming the Russian leader to India in December for the 23rd India–Russia Annual Summit.
In September, the two leaders met at the SCO Summit in Tianjin, discussing regional and global developments, including the situation in Ukraine, and reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral ties.
President Putin is anticipated to visit India in December, following his last trip to New Delhi in 2021.
