Kolkata, Nov 24 (NationPress): The Election Commission of India (ECI) has projected that more than 10 lakh names will be removed from the voters’ list in West Bengal once the current Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process is finalized. This estimate is based on an analysis of enumeration forms that have been collected by two-tier officers (BOs/BLOs) and subsequently uploaded to the BLO App, according to a source from the office of the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), West Bengal.
The source elaborated that the deletions will primarily include the names of deceased individuals, duplicate entries (voters listed in two locations), those who have permanently relocated to another state, and voters who are untraceable.
“The highest number of deletions will occur among deceased voters, estimated to be around 6.5 lakh,” the insider mentioned. “The ongoing collection of properly filled enumeration forms and their upload to the BLO App will determine the final count of names eliminated from the voters’ list, which will be revealed after the completion of the process and the publication of the draft voters’ list by the commission.”
On Monday, the CEO of West Bengal, Manoj Kumar Agarwal, urged voters who have not yet submitted their completed enumeration forms to do so as soon as possible.
He emphasized that the deadline for submitting the duly filled enumeration forms is December 4, and there will be no extensions. Those who fail to submit their forms will have their names automatically removed from the voters’ list.
The draft list is set to be published on December 9.
Addressing concerns regarding the reported deaths of three BLOs in West Bengal, allegedly related to the workload from SIR, Agarwal stated that the ECI has received comprehensive reports from the respective district magistrates, who also serve as the district electoral officers.
“The contributions of the BLOs to the SIR exercise in West Bengal are truly commendable. They are, in every sense, the unsung heroes of the revision process,” Agarwal added.
