Kolkata, Oct 28 (NationPress) Enforcement Directorate (ED) officials executed raids at the residence of a prominent business family in Kolkata on Tuesday.

The central investigative agency targeted the property located at 75 Hemchandra Naskar Road in the Beliaghata area around 7 a.m., with approximately six ED officers involved in the operation.

According to ED sources, the residence is owned by Biswajit Chowdhury and Ranajit Chowdhury, who are well-known for their clothing enterprise.

While Biswajit Chowdhury oversees the clothing business, Ranajit Chowdhury has interests in the construction sector.

However, investigators are also exploring any additional business affiliations or financial activities related to the brothers.

The ED officials conducted the raid with the assistance of central force personnel. Initial attempts to enter the house were met with challenges.

Sources indicate that the iron gate resisted their efforts for an extended period before a security guard arrived to unlock it, allowing the ED officials to proceed inside.

This operation appears to be connected to a case involving financial transactions or potential tax evasion, although the central agency has not publicly disclosed the specific nature of the investigation.

During the raid, ED officials searched various rooms in the house, with reports suggesting that crucial documents and transaction-related statements are under examination. The agency suspects possible irregularities or money laundering linked to the financial dealings of this family.

For security reasons, ED officials have restricted access to the vicinity of the house. The state administration is monitoring the investigation's progress.

Speaking to journalists, Ranajit Chowdhury stated, "I am unaware of the specific reasons for the raid or the investigation's context. They have not communicated anything to us. I have been in the real estate and construction business since 1996 and own two hotels in Puri."
