Raipur, April 12 (NationPress) Motivated by the ongoing ‘Lon Varratu’ (Come Back Home) initiative in Dantewada district, a group of eight Maoists, including two with bounties, have voluntarily surrendered on Saturday.

A police representative indicated that most of these individuals are affiliated with CNM (Chetna Natya Manch) from various Rewali and Kakanadi Panchayats. The Manch serves as the ‘cultural troupe’ for the Communist Party of India (Maoist).

Additionally, one of the surrendered Maoists is a member of Timnar GRD, and another belongs to the Bhairamgarh Area Student Organization, while two others are part of the Pomra Panchayat Bhumkal Militia.

The Chhattisgarh government had previously announced a bounty of Rs 50,000 for Mangdu Madkam from Tekalguda Panchayat and Deva Ram Kunjam from Rewali Panchayat, as confirmed by officials.

According to an official, these individuals had been engaged in activities such as road digging and promoting Naxal banners and posters in their localities.

Inspector General of Police (Bastar Range) Sundarraj P, alongside senior officials, the district police, and the CRPF (Central Reserve Police Force), have been actively working to encourage Maoists to reintegrate into society.

Officials reported that the campaign, together with the Chhattisgarh government’s rehabilitation policy, has been effectively communicated in villages, resulting in a consistent flow of surrenders from both high-ranking and lower-tier Maoists.

Disillusioned by the oppressive ideology of Maoism, internal strife within Maoist factions, and the difficulties of forest life, these individuals have opted to renounce violence and reintegrate into society.

On April 12, 2025, the eight Maoists, with a cumulative bounty of Rs 1 lakh, surrendered at the office of Deputy Inspector General (Dantewada Range) Kamalochan Kashyap as part of the ‘Lon Varratu’ initiative.

The RFT (Intelligence Branch) Dantewada, along with the 111th and 230th Battalions of the CRPF, played a crucial role in facilitating these surrenders.

Under the rehabilitation policy, surrendered Maoists will receive Rs 50,000 in financial aid along with additional benefits such as skill development training and agricultural land.

Since the launch of the ‘Lon Varratu’ campaign, a total of 961 Maoists, including 226 with rewards, have surrendered and chosen a new path in society, according to officials.
