Kolkata, Dec 8 (NationPress) Former West Bengal Education Minister and suspended Trinamool Congress MLA Partha Chatterjee has been hospitalized following an injury from a fall in the bathroom of his residence in Naktala, south Kolkata, as reported by family sources on Monday.
Chatterjee had recently returned home after spending over three years in judicial custody. He had been receiving care at a private hospital on the Eastern Metropolitan Bypass in Kolkata for eight months, but was readmitted for further treatment.
According to family sources, Chatterjee injured his left hand due to a bathroom accident last week.
The family doctor was promptly summoned to provide immediate care for his injury. However, when the pain worsened on Friday, the doctor recommended hospitalization again. Consequently, the former Education Minister was taken back to the hospital on the Eastern Metropolitan Bypass.
Chatterjee's family has indicated that doctors conducted an X-ray of his hand.
Despite a serious injury to his left hand, it is not broken. Nevertheless, medical professionals have decided to keep him under observation, necessitating a longer hospital stay.
Interestingly, following his return on November 11, Chatterjee had engaged with his supporters and made numerous media statements.
He expressed a desire to participate in the winter session of the West Bengal Assembly and sought justice from the constituents of his assembly, Behala West.
In an effort to connect with the public, he distributed an open letter to the people of Behala Paschim, his electoral constituency. He also reached out to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, state party president Subrata Bakshi, and Trinamool All-India General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee regarding his suspension.
However, since November 13, Chatterjee has been noticeably absent, refraining from visiting his constituency or meeting supporters.
A special CBI court has recently expressed its dissatisfaction over Chatterjee's absence from a hearing, stating that such negligence would not be tolerated and ordering his presence at the next hearing. Additionally, the court mandated close monitoring of his bail conditions.
