Rewa, April 4 (NationPress) The tenuous tranquility in Gadra village, located in Madhya Pradesh's Mauganj district, was shattered anew on Friday when three lifeless bodies were uncovered in a household, exacerbating the already challenging situation for local law enforcement.
The somber revelation emerged after neighbors detected a foul smell emanating from the home of one Auseri Saket. Upon police arrival, they entered the residence and discovered the bodies hanging.
Auseri Saket had been residing alone with his two children following the passing of his wife. Authorities suspect the deceased to be Auseri and his children.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Ankita Sulya stated, “Three bodies have been retrieved from Auseri Saket’s home. While we suspect their identities, confirmation is still pending.”
She noted that Saket's daughter had previously been reported missing.
Authorities are investigating whether Saket's family had any links to the police-public confrontation that occurred on March 15 in the village. This tragedy unfolded amidst heightened tensions in Gadra, where Section 144 remains in effect following a mob attack on a police team trying to rescue resident Sunny Dwivedi, resulting in the death of Assistant Sub-Inspector Ram Charan Gautam.
Heavy police presence has persisted in the area since then. Sunny Dwivedi also succumbed to injuries from the attack.
On Friday, neighbors of Saket reported the unpleasant odor and promptly alerted authorities.
A forensic team and additional personnel from Rewa were called in to assist with the investigation.
Initial police evaluations indicate that the deaths likely occurred about a week prior, based on the level of decomposition. The incident has left the village in shock, with law enforcement officials probing the potential for foul play or deeper conspiracies surrounding the tragedy.
Last Friday (March 28), various groups representing SC and ST (scheduled caste and scheduled tribe) communities, along with social organizations, organized a rally in Mauganj, submitting a memorandum to demand a fair CBI (Central Bureau of Investigation) inquiry into the villagers-police clash that transpired on March 15. Protesters accused law enforcement of targeting innocent tribals and mistreating women and those with disabilities.
The police have thus far filed charges against 38 individuals. Measures have also been taken against the family of the primary accused, Ashok Kol. Villagers remain steadfast in their demand for a thorough investigation into Ashok Kol’s death, which police attribute to a road accident, while villagers assert he was murdered. In response to the March 15 incident, Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav has already dismissed both the Superintendent of Police and the District Collector from their roles.
