Imphal, Nov 28 (NationPress) A violent clash erupted on Friday between the Assam Rifles and militants in the border regions of Manipur and Myanmar, with ongoing operations, according to officials.
A defense spokesperson and a police representative confirmed that an Assam Rifles patrol unit was targeted by terrorists early Friday morning.
The troops responded swiftly with measured fire to protect civilians, as noted by the defense spokesperson, who also mentioned that additional units have been sent to the area, and the operation is still underway. More information is forthcoming.
Manipur has a 398 km unfenced border with Myanmar, making it particularly susceptible to the movement of militants, hostile groups, and extensive drug trafficking.
Additionally, security forces conducted separate joint operations that resulted in the arrest of six individuals, including five militants from a banned group, who were reportedly involved in extortion activities in Imphal East and Imphal West districts.
A police official stated that the arrested militants are affiliated with the Kangleipak Communist Party and were apprehended over the past 24 hours in Imphal East and Imphal West.
These individuals were allegedly involved in extorting money from the public, contractors, government employees, petrol stations, private educational institutions, and government colleges in the Imphal valley.
Among those arrested was KCP militant Khulem Robindro Singh (36), who is reported to have been involved in recruiting youth for the extremist organization.
In a separate incident, security forces apprehended Yumnam Chandra Singh (42), also known as Baby, from his home in Imphal East district. Two high-powered 36 HE grenades, a mobile phone, and an Aadhaar card were seized from him.
Security forces are actively conducting extensive crackdowns against militants, with ongoing search operations and area dominance strategies in mixed-population and vulnerable regions across various districts.
A total of 115 checkpoints have been established throughout Manipur to prevent the illegal movement of hostile elements and suspicious vehicles.
Furthermore, security forces are providing escorts to vehicles, including trucks carrying essential supplies, along the Imphal-Jiribam National Highway (NH-37).
Strict security measures and convoy protection remain in place along sensitive routes to guarantee the safe passage of vehicles. Manipur Police have requested that the public refrain from believing rumors and remain cautious of false videos circulating on social media.
“The authenticity of any circulated unfounded videos or audio clips can be verified through the Central Control Room. Disseminating and sharing false content on social media will incur legal consequences,” the police cautioned.
