Kolkata, June 10 (NationPress) A coalition of five Left parties has addressed a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, expressing their opposition to the encounter killings of Maoist leaders during 'Operation Kagar' being executed in the Chhattisgarh area.
In the collective letter issued on Monday, the parties urged the Prime Minister to immediately cease the “extra-judicial” killings occurring in the Chhattisgarh region under the guise of Operation Kagar.
“Numerous reports indicate that various senior Maoist leaders are presently in the custody of security forces. We demand that they be produced in court and treated according to the rule of law,” the letter stated.
Furthermore, the parties contended that the routine lives of the tribal communities in the area have been severely disrupted due to the actions of security forces.
“The rights of Adivasis, as protected under the Fifth Schedule of the Constitution, are being systematically violated, while the forests and minerals of Chhattisgarh face rampant corporate exploitation, posing dire threats to environmental safety and the livelihoods of local populations. We implore you to halt this militaristic strategy that approaches Adivasis with unrelenting hostility,” the letter continued.
The letter also accused the Union government of failing to return the bodies of individuals killed in the encounters to their families, thus denying them a dignified farewell.
“The Maoists have persistently urged the government to engage in dialogue. Regrettably, the Union government and the BJP-led Chhattisgarh administration have opted not to pursue a resolution through negotiations. Instead, they are adhering to a brutal policy of violence and extermination,” the letter asserted.
