Guwahati, May 28 (NationPress) The president of the Assam BJP and Lok Sabha MP Dilip Saikia has sharply criticized Congress leader Gaurav Gogoi over his visit to Pakistan, which has sparked controversy. Saikia remarked, “On September 10, the state government will unveil significant disclosures that will create a shockwave within the Congress party. Gogoi has only revealed part of his Pakistan trip and his wife's connections to the country.”
Additionally, the Assam BJP president asserted that the Special Investigation Team (SIT) has gathered extensive information regarding Gogoi's trip to Pakistan, which will be disclosed in September.
“The public will learn all the details on September 10,” Saikia emphasized.
Earlier in the day, Gogoi addressed the ongoing discussion surrounding his 2013 visit to Pakistan and his wife's professional role.
To quell the rumors and social media speculation about his family's connections, Gogoi clarified that his wife, Elizabeth Colburn Gogoi, worked with an international NGO and was in Pakistan in 2011 for a year as part of her official duties.
“I visited Pakistan just once, in 2013, adhering strictly to the Government of India’s rules and regulations,” he stated.
“My personal and professional life has always been open and aligned with national interests.”
He also highlighted the importance of evidence-based political discussions and called on his opponents to concentrate on meaningful topics rather than personal attacks.
When questioned about his family's citizenship, Gogoi confirmed that his wife and two children possess British citizenship.
“My wife's citizenship is a personal choice. Our second child was born in the UK. We encountered numerous challenges during our time in England amid the COVID-19 pandemic, which ultimately led us to change our first child’s citizenship to British,” he explained.
