Gorakhpur, June 17 (NationPress) The Gorakhpur Link Expressway, a key highway initiative in Uttar Pradesh, is poised to launch for public use on June 20, promising enhanced speed and connectivity.
During the inauguration, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will unveil a specialized safety fleet, which will consist of five Innovas, five Campers, four ambulances, two cranes, and one hydra vehicle dedicated to ensuring commuter safety.
Plans are in place to introduce an Advanced Traffic Management System (ATMS), akin to the system utilized on the Lucknow-Agra Expressway, to facilitate ongoing surveillance and enforcement.
Created by the Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA), the safety fleet will feature five Innovas, five Campers, four ambulances, two cranes, and one hydra vehicle.
According to UPEIDA’s security officer Rajesh Pandey, the Innovas will conduct 24/7 patrols on the expressway in shifts of eight hours, each vehicle staffed by four ex-servicemen.
The Camper vehicles, which are open at the back, will come equipped with traffic cones, ropes, and radium strips. In the event of accidents or breakdowns, these vehicles will be dispatched immediately to secure the area, thereby minimizing inconvenience or risk to other travelers.
Ambulances will be stationed every 45 km along the 91-km expressway—on both sides of the road—to ensure rapid medical response. Cranes will also be placed every 45 km, along with a hydra vehicle to cover the entire route. If a vehicle fails, small and medium vehicles will be towed by cranes, while larger vehicles will be relocated to the nearest chainage point. According to NHAI guidelines, no broken-down vehicle is permitted to remain on the expressway.
The implementation of ATMS will enhance road safety significantly. This system entails the installation of CCTV cameras every 5 km, all monitored from a central control room. It will also feature speed cameras and number plate readers (NPRs) to identify and report violations. Instances of speeding will be automatically reported to the relevant district’s ARTO for prompt action.
