Bhopal, April 20 (NationPress) Madhya Pradesh's Governor, Mangubhai Patel, emphasized the importance of a people-oriented and service-driven strategy in forest governance during a meeting with the Indian Forest Service (IFS) trainee officers on Monday.

While addressing the 2024–26 cohort at Lok Bhawan, he highlighted that the duties of forest officers extend far beyond mere administration, encompassing a greater duty towards nature, wildlife, tribal communities, and the well-being of future generations.

“The role of the Indian Forest Service transcends administrative responsibilities; it signifies a commitment to humanity, biodiversity, and future generations,” he stated.

The Governor pointed out that the genuine success of these officers hinges on their ability to enhance the quality of life for those residing in forested regions. He encouraged trainees to engage with empathy and awareness, particularly towards tribal and marginalized populations.

He urged them to thoroughly analyze forest regulations and provisions for tribal welfare, tailoring their implementation to meet specific local requirements.

Patel stressed the urgent need to address environmental issues and climate change. “A proactive mindset, unwavering determination, and a commitment to service are vital for the preservation of forests and wildlife,” he asserted.

He reiterated that conservation should be the foremost priority for all forest officers.

The Governor emphasized the significance of establishing trust within local communities for efficient governance. He advised the officers to exhibit humility and cultivate a strong rapport with the locals.

According to him, public engagement is critical in combating illegal logging and poaching activities. He also referenced Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “Ek Ped—Maa Ke Naam” initiative as a model for community-driven conservation efforts.

Patel remarked on Madhya Pradesh's rich biodiversity and forest resources, noting its recognition for tigers, leopards, and other wildlife. He mentioned that scientific forest management has positioned the state as a leader in conservation.

He stated that officers bear a dual obligation of conservation and inclusive progress. They must honor tribal customs and safeguard their constitutional rights while also promoting traditional knowledge, including the use of medicinal plants and indigenous practices.

Focusing on education, Patel urged the officers to champion schooling initiatives in tribal regions. He encouraged them to raise awareness about government programs related to health, education, and livelihoods during their field engagements.
