He reflected on how, before 2014, essential items like toothpaste, soap, and oil faced a tax of 27 percent, whereas now only 5 percent GST is levied on these products. He noted that many manufacturers of scooters and cars have already lowered their prices, expressing optimism that the forthcoming festive season will be exceptionally lively across the nation.
Additionally, PM Modi mentioned that the GST on most hotels has been reduced to just 5 percent, making travel, hotel stays, and dining out more budget-friendly. This change is expected to motivate more individuals to travel, explore, and enjoy the diverse attractions of the country, particularly benefiting tourist hotspots like the North East.
Highlighting India's economic growth, he stated, “India's economy has achieved a remarkable growth rate of 7.8 percent in the first quarter of 2025–26, affirming our position as the fastest growing major economy globally.” He also pointed out the robust growth in the 'Make in India' initiative and exports.
