Ahmedabad, June 29 (NationPress) The southwest monsoon is picking up pace across Gujarat, delivering essential rainfall to various regions of the state on Sunday.
By Sunday evening, a total of 160 talukas recorded rainfall from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., with the most substantial showers noted in parts of Mehsana and Ahmedabad districts.
Kadi taluka in Mehsana district saw the highest rainfall at 3.58 inches, closely followed by Viramgam in Ahmedabad, which received 3.31 inches.
Notable precipitation was also reported in Kalol (Gandhinagar) with 2.05 inches, Umarpada (Surat) at 1.93 inches, Detroj-Rampura (Ahmedabad) with 1.85 inches, Salvi (Vadodara) at 1.61 inches, and Petlad (Anand) with 1.34 inches.
Additional areas that recorded over an inch of rainfall include Bavla (Ahmedabad), Vyara and Kukarmunda (Tapi), Songadh (Tapi), Khergam (Navsari), Mansa (Gandhinagar), Mangrol (Surat), and Navsari town. Meanwhile, lighter showers—below 1 inch—were observed in 144 talukas, indicating a widespread but uneven rain distribution throughout the state.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for heavy rainfall across 13 districts on Sunday. These districts are Amreli, Bhavnagar, Gir Somnath, Anand, Vadodara, Bharuch, Narmada, Chhota Udepur, Surat, Tapi, Navsari, Dang, and Valsad.
The IMD forecasts heavy to very heavy rainfall along with thunderstorms in various districts from July 1 to 2.
