Ahmedabad, March 24 (NationPress) In a significant step towards rehabilitating inmates, District Collector Gargi Jain launched a 13-day self-employment training program at the Chhota Udepur Sub Jail in Gujarat on Monday.
A total of 35 inmates, comprising both men and women, will participate in a specialized training initiative aimed at providing them with essential skills to secure employment after their release.
This program has been established in partnership with the Baroda Self-Employment Development Institute, focusing on group product entrepreneurship training. Under the supervision of State Jail Department DGP K.L. Rao, similar initiatives are being introduced across all prisons in Gujarat.
The objective is to equip inmates with productive skills that facilitate their reintegration into society with financial independence after they complete their sentences. The training commenced on Monday and will last for 13 days, concentrating on handicraft production, especially in the manufacturing of jute products.
Professionals in the field will conduct training sessions, enabling prisoners to acquire skills that can be monetized post-release. Among the 35 participants, 32 are male inmates, while three are female prisoners.
After the inauguration, District Collector Gargi Jain visited the Sub Jail to monitor the program's execution. Several dignitaries were present, including District Development Officer Sachin Kumar, Baroda Self-Employment Institute Director Rahul Joshi, Sub-Jail Superintendent D.K. Parmar, and officials from the Rural Development Agency.
