Gurugram, April 29 (NationPress) The district administration of Gurugram has initiated measures to address the waterlogging issues in the city, as confirmed by officials on Tuesday.
To evaluate the preparations by the Municipal Corporation Gurugram (MCG), National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), and the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) for public relief, Deputy Commissioner Ajay Kumar conducted an inspection of key waterlogging spots.
During his visit, officials from MCG and GMDA accompanied him. The Deputy Commissioner inspected areas such as Ambience Mall, Shankar Chowk, Sikanderpur, Shiv Nadar School, AIT Chowk, and several sectors including 52, 56, 46, 47, 57, Sushant Lok, Artemis Road, and Mayfield Garden, instructing officials to finalize preparations ahead of the upcoming monsoon.
The Deputy Commissioner urged NHAI officials to construct a breaker at the underpass entrance and to install high-capacity water pumps. He emphasized the importance of cleaning all culverts and adjacent drains along the national highway within Gurugram to facilitate rainwater drainage.
Additionally, NHAI officials highlighted issues of drain blockages caused by littering, which has exacerbated the waterlogging situation. In response, Kumar directed MCG to place large dustbins at identified locations and promote awareness among residents regarding proper waste disposal.
The Deputy Commissioner announced plans to visit Narsinghpur and Hero Honda Chowk soon to review ongoing works. Concerns were also raised about inadequate cleaning of the drainage and sewer systems in various sectors, which contributes to rainwater overflow and waterlogging.
Kumar instructed MCG to identify affected sectors and ensure thorough cleaning of the drainage and sewer networks promptly. During the inspection, GMDA Executive Engineer Vikram Singh reported illegal dumping of construction waste in areas adjacent to Udyog Vihar, impacting local water bodies.
The Deputy Commissioner stated that GMDA will soon increase the pond area’s width to redirect water from Udyog Vihar, Surya Vihar, and Dhundahera village. He noted that cleaning work in Sikandarpur has been successfully completed and that priority is being given to cover open drainage areas.
Regarding arrangements near Shiv Nadar School, GMDA informed him that check dams have been constructed in the Aravalli region to slow water flow during rainfall, which also aids in groundwater recharge. The drainage project near Banjara Market is expected to finish within a week, and additional pumps are being set up in low-lying societies to manage water drainage.
